"You have lived a full, complicated, creative life. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, you set yourself aside."

— Mythic Mentor

What this is

Not a course.
Not a workshop.
A guided year.

Mythic Mentor is a private, one-to-one mentorship for people in midlife and beyond. It draws on archetypal psychology, the hero's journey, and the particular wisdom that accumulates in an individual who has lived a full life and knows they aren't finished yet.

By the end of the year, you will have:

  • Discovered your mythic archetype and the story you've been living
  • Processed what needs to be released — grief, old identities, unlived chapters
  • Rebuilt a creative practice that is genuinely, unmistakably yours
  • Emerged with a concrete sense of purpose and a plan to act on it

This work is serious. It will ask things of you. And it will return things to you that you may have forgotten you had.

One Pattern, Sometimes Two

The hero's journey.
The heroine's journey. Or both.

People in midlife transition often recognize the shape of the hero's journey: a departure from the known world and a return that is changed by what happened along the way. Others recognize a different pattern, the heroine's journey identified by Jungian writer Maureen Murdock, in which separation from an inherited identity gives way to a slow homecoming toward a fuller sense of self. A person can live inside both patterns at once, one narrative running beneath the other. Mentoring offers a structure for either pattern, or for both together, and moves each person toward wholeness.

The Structure

One year. Two phases.
Your story.

The program unfolds over twelve months, meeting twice monthly for 60-minute sessions. Between each session, structured creative and reflective homework deepens the work in the days that matter most — the ones between conversations.

Phase One · Six Months

The Descent

Excavation, Archetypal Discovery & Creative Reawakening

The first phase is an inward journey. We begin with your archetypal discovery — identifying the mythic figure that most closely reflects your particular way of moving through the world.

From there, we go into your story: the myth you have been living, the creative self you set aside, the grief you have been carrying, and the unlived life that has been signaling its readiness to emerge.

  • Archetypal discovery and mythic identity work
  • Story excavation and narrative rewriting
  • Shadow work and creative reclamation
  • Relational mapping and renegotiation
  • Grief work and the composting of experience
  • Threshold ceremony at completion

Phase Two · Six Months

The Return

Embodiment, Voice, Legacy & Purposeful Creation

The second phase turns outward. The excavation is complete. Now we build. Your creative practice deepens and takes on deliberate form. Your voice gains authority. Your legacy intention becomes concrete.

You design a creative project or contribution that is genuinely, unmistakably yours — and begin to bring it into the world with the full weight of everything you have learned about yourself.

  • Visioning and creative architecture
  • Creative practice design and discipline
  • Voice development and expressive authority
  • Sharing work and navigating vulnerability
  • Legacy definition and contribution design
  • Return ceremony and advanced work option
Portrait of Sharon A. Hart, artist and mentor

Artist. Mentor. Woman in progress.

Your Mentor

I am not a bystander
to this work.

I am a woman in my late sixties. I hold a Ph.D. and work as a professional artist, an entrepreneur, a former Fortune 500 executive, a teacher, a mother, and a person who has moved through the particular kind of freedom and uncertainty that arrives when the roles that defined you for decades begin to shift.

I have done this descent myself. I know what it costs and what it returns. The creative hunger that arrives in this stage of life — the sense that something essential is demanding expression before there is no more time — is not a crisis. It is a calling. It deserves to be met with the same seriousness you would bring to anything that matters.

I created Mythic Mentor because I could not find the kind of companionship I needed for my own transition — something that honored both the psychological complexity of this stage and the creative hunger that comes with it. Something that spoke to people as whole, intelligent, and capable human beings at a genuine threshold.

My background:

  • Visual artist with an active studio practice — see sharonahart.com
  • Former executive with Fortune 500 organizational experience
  • Entrepreneur, advocate, and educator across multiple disciplines
  • Student of Jungian archetypal psychology and the hero's journey framework
  • Mother and person who has navigated the transitions I guide others through

I have navigated this terrain. I know where the ground holds and where it doesn't. I would be honored to walk into it with you.

What Clients Say

The work, in their
own words.

"I came into this work as a skeptic — a retired engineer who had built everything in his life on logic and systems. Sharon didn't try to convince me of anything. She just asked questions nobody had ever asked me before and waited. By the third session I realized I had been living someone else's definition of a successful life for forty years. What came out of our time together wasn't a new career plan — it was a new relationship with myself. I didn't expect that. I'm grateful for it."

Robert K.  ·  Retired engineer  ·  Myrtle Beach, SC

"After selling my company I thought I would feel free. Instead I felt completely lost. Everything I had built my identity around was gone, and I had no idea who I was without it. A colleague suggested I talk to Sharon. I resisted for months. When I finally did, I understood immediately why she had recommended her. Sharon has a rare combination of psychological depth and practical groundedness. She helped me find a new story to live into — one that felt truer than anything I had built before."

Marcus T.  ·  Former CEO  ·  Charleston, SC

"I found Sharon at a point when I had everything I was supposed to want and felt emptier than I ever had. My therapist was helpful for processing the past, but Sharon helped me figure out what I actually wanted to build next. The mythic framework sounds abstract until you're in it — then it becomes the most useful map you've ever held. I left our work together with a clarity about my creative direction that I had been circling for a decade without finding."

Diane W.  ·  Marketing executive  ·  Columbia, SC

"I came to Sharon feeling completely stuck, professionally successful on paper but deeply disconnected from any sense of purpose. Through Mythic Mentorship, she helped me see my life not as a series of random setbacks, but as a genuine hero's journey unfolding in real time. Within three months I had left a job that was slowly killing my spirit and taken the leap I had been too afraid to make for years. Sharon doesn't just coach you. She helps you remember who you actually are."

Daniel M.  ·  Former finance director, now founder  ·  Austin, TX

"I was honestly skeptical of the mythic framework going in. It sounded a little 'woo' for my taste. But Sharon's approach is grounded, intelligent, and surprisingly practical. She has a gift for asking the one question you've been avoiding your whole life and then just sitting with you in it. By the end of our six months together I had a clearer sense of my values, my patterns, and what I actually want to build than I'd had in four decades. Worth every penny and more."

Rachel L.  ·  Pediatric nurse practitioner  ·  Charleston, SC

"After my divorce I thought I knew myself pretty well. Turns out I mostly knew the version of myself that had been shaped by someone else's needs. Sharon held space for that unraveling in a way that never felt dramatic or indulgent, just honest. The mythic lens she uses reframes even the most painful chapters into something meaningful without bypassing the real grief. I've worked with other coaches and therapists. This was different. This was transformational."

Tara C.  ·  Writer and creative director  ·  Chicago, IL

Before You Reach Out

Questions most people
think but don't ask.

Mythic Mentor is mentorship, not therapy. Sharon A. Hart is not a licensed therapist, psychologist, or clinical counselor. This work uses archetypal psychology and the hero's journey as frameworks for reflection and forward movement — not as clinical treatment. If you are currently in crisis or need clinical mental health support, please reach out to a licensed professional or call or text 988. Many clients work with both a therapist and a mentor simultaneously; the work is designed to complement, not replace, clinical care.

Sessions run 60 minutes and are available by phone, video, or in person in Conway, South Carolina. Sharon uses guided conversation, archetypal frameworks, and structured reflective questions tailored to where you are in the journey. Between sessions, you receive written homework — reflections, creative prompts, and exercises — designed to deepen the work in the days that matter most. You will never arrive at a session without knowing what to expect.

Sharon addresses fit directly and honestly during the discovery call before any commitment is made. If at any point in the work you feel the direction is not right, that conversation is available to you — there is no pressure and no shame in raising it. Life also does not cooperate with fixed schedules; scheduling flexibility is built into the program. Specific pause and rescheduling policies are discussed during the discovery call so you understand them before you begin.

Yes. Sessions are available by phone or video for clients across the country, and a number of current and past clients are located outside South Carolina. In-person sessions are available in Conway, SC for those who are local or who travel for the work. Distance has not been an obstacle for any client yet.

Completely normal. Most people who reach out have been considering it for weeks or months before they do. A year-long mentorship at this depth is not a casual commitment, and the hesitation that accompanies it is appropriate. The discovery call is free, carries no obligation, and is designed to answer the questions that feel too personal to ask before you know who you're talking to. It is a low-stakes first step toward something that may turn out to matter quite a lot.

Midlife crisis coaching and empty nest coaching describe some of the seasons Mythic Mentor clients are in when they first reach out. Sharon works with people facing a midlife crisis, an empty nest, a retirement transition, a divorce, or a creative block, using archetypal psychology and the hero's journey and heroine's journey frameworks as the shared structure underneath any of those seasons.

Mythic Mentor works with anyone in midlife and beyond who is ready for this kind of one-to-one work, including men and women moving through retirement, career change, grief, or creative reawakening. Clients quoted on this site include former executives, engineers, and creative professionals of different genders and backgrounds.

Concierge Mentorship

For those who need
deeper access to the work.

Some transitions demand more than a twice-monthly rhythm can hold. Concierge is the same archetypal, story-based work at the heart of Mythic Mentor — the descent, the excavation, the return — offered at a level of depth and frequency that matches the weight of what you are carrying. It is not a different methodology. It is sustained, immersive access to Sharon during the periods when that matters most.

Personal Concierge Mentorship

There are thresholds in a life that cannot be navigated at a measured pace. A sudden loss, a divorce that reorders everything, the end of a career that was also an identity — these are not moments for a scheduled session twice a month. They require a guide who is genuinely present in the thick of it.

Personal Concierge provides direct, frequent access to Sharon throughout the arc of your transition. The archetypal framework remains the map. What changes is how close the guide walks beside you, and how quickly you can reach her when the ground shifts.

  • Significantly increased session frequency, shaped to the transition
  • Between-session access for real-time archetypal guidance
  • Deepened shadow work and narrative excavation
  • Threshold ceremonies and ritual marking of significant passages
  • Full continuity across both the Descent and the Return
  • Bespoke engagement design — no standard package, no fixed duration
